Super Woman {and her shadow}

Do you ever have those days where you feel on top of it all? The to-do list, the kids, the cooking, your work, getting your body moving - it all happens, it all flows together beautifully and you literally feel like Super Woman?

And then, somewhat mysteriously, seemingly out of nowhere you have the day where that same list, that same structure just falls apart? Your energy or your mood or your motivation don’t match what your are trying to accomplish?

I bet that if you were to track this trend you would see something that I think is pretty incredible. Those days of killing it are happening around and with your ovulation.

See, our body moves through these hormonal phases and each phase, each hormonal profile brings with it a different energy. Ovulation time has the most external energy focus. This means that our “accomplishing”, what looks like success on the outside, happens more easily. Our energy is higher and our capacity to care for others is at its peak. And we have been taught that THIS is the best way to function. That checking marking all the things on the to do list, cooking the most nourishing food every day, making sure that everyone around us is happy and health - this is the gold standard of a “good day”, of being a “good mom” or a “good wife”.

And then…. our body shifts out of ovulation and with it our internal focus becomes stronger and stronger. While we still have the capacity to care for others, there is a definite shifting in what that may look like. But in our mind we start to fail, we start to drop the ball. And that feels awful.

When you let the Super Woman energy of ovulation be the energy you expect every. single. day. you will stay on this rollercoaster. This version of Super Woman is not sustainable and she is not healthy for every phase. If you let her control your schedule, your to-do list, and your expectations, you will burn out.

Do you recognize this pattern in yourself? Are you ready to shift out of this rollercoaster and learn what your Super Woman looks like through a WHOLE CYCLE?

As with everything, the very first step is just to be more aware of this tendency and your own patterns through your cycle. The next step is learn about what each phase looks like - what is the hormone pattern and what does that actually MEAN for your body. The third step is to take this learning, tune back into your own body to hear its wisdom.
